September 2024 Newsletter - Bandits Gear Up for 2k25

by Brett Funke

September 10, 2024 (Sioux City, IA) – The 2024 National Arena Championship Game saw a nail-biting double overtime clash against our long-standing rivals, the Omaha Beef. Despite a heart-wrenching one-point loss, the Bandits are more determined than ever to make their mark in 2025.

We’re excited to announce the return of key players for the upcoming season. Quarterback Verlon Reed Jr., a crucial force in elevating the Sioux City Bandits from a solid team to an elite contender, will be back to lead our offense. Veteran players Fred Bruno and Drew Prohaska are also rejoining the squad for another run. They’ll be joined by experienced wide receivers Brandon Sheperd (Oklahoma State), Damond Powell (Iowa, NFL), and Sammie Epps (Ole Miss), as well as offensive linemen Omarr Roberts and Sterling Clark.

On the defensive front, we’re thrilled to welcome back stalwarts like Carlton Watkins, Chris Perry, and Antwan Smith. Laronji Vason, who made waves in the league a few years back, is returning alongside Xavier Spann and NFL 1st Round Draft Pick Justin Gilbert. Defensive lineman Devon Groenhagen, known as "The Long Arm of the Law," is back, as is Asi Tupua for his third season with the Bandits. Rounding out our defensive lineup is Isiah Blackmon, a seasoned pro in indoor football, and Juan Moore, affectionately known as "Ruit," who is also returning for 2025.

For special teams, we’ve signed kicker Cole Lundy, who previously played for Corpus Christi.

2025 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Sioux City Bandits, so stay tuned for exciting promotions and celebrations throughout the season.
