Game Recap: Bandits Stumble on the road with 18-28 loss to Gillette

Sioux City Bandits (Sioux City, IA) - With a perfect record on the line, the Sioux City Bandits fell short of victory in Gillette after an explosive second quarter from the Mustangs.


The Sioux City Bandits jumped on the board early with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Tasleem Wilson. Both defenses held their ground throughout the entire first quarter, and the bandits entered the second up 6-0.


The Mustangs knotted the score up at 6-6 early in the second quarter courtesy of a touchdown pass from Mike Pina to Karonce Higgins. The next Gillette possession was capped off with a Mike Pina sneak from the half-yard line into the endzone, and the Mustangs took a 14-6 lead.


Fred “The Franchise” Bruno would make it a 14-12 game after taking a jet sweep into the endzone from two yards out. The Mustangs went on to score right before the end of the half to make it a 22-12 deficit for the Sioux City Bandits heading into the break. Gillette outscored the Bandits 22-6 in the second quarter.


Neither team was able to capitalize off their drives and get into the endzone in the third quarter as the Sioux City Bandits entered the fourth quarter down ten. In the fourth, the Mustangs extended their lead to 28-12 after an Isaiah McFarland interception that led to a quick touchdown pass from Mike Pina. Running out of time, the Bandits scored courtesy of a touchdown pass from Tasleem Wilson to Drew Prohaska, making it a 10-point game again. The Sioux City Bandits’ comeback effort came up short as the team falls to 2-1 on the season.


The Bandits will be back at home in the Tyson Events Center on Friday, March 31st against the Southwest Kansas Storm at 7:00 pm.

April 29th the Bandits get a revenge game against the Gillette Mustangs at home for the Inaugural Black Out Night presented by Coke Zero Sugar and Chesterman Company.
