Bandits Shock Undefeated Salina in 47-46 Thriller

At the Tyson Events Center on Saturday night, the Sioux City Bandits delivered one of the most dramatic finishes of the season, stunning the previously undefeated Salina Liberty, 47-46.

In a game that featured multiple lead changes, explosive plays, and late-game chaos, it all came down to the final seconds—and the Bandits rose to the moment.

Salina struck first with an early touchdown to take a 7-0 lead, but Sioux City quickly settled in. Kicker Dylan Karnes put the Bandits on the board with a 35-yard field goal before quarterback Lorenzo Brown began to find his rhythm. Brown connected with Jadon Johnson for two second-quarter touchdown passes, while Fred Bruno added a rushing score to give Sioux City a 23-16 lead heading into halftime.

The momentum shifted coming out of the break. Salina capitalized on a short field and added a safety to reclaim a 24-23 advantage midway through the third quarter. But the Bandits responded in kind, as Brown found Brandon Sheperd for a late touchdown to regain the lead, 29-24, heading into the fourth.

What followed was a back-and-forth fourth quarter that kept fans on their feet.

After a Karnes field goal extended the Bandits’ lead, Salina answered with a touchdown and two-point conversion to tie the game at 32-32. Moments later, a Salina interception return for a touchdown gave the Liberty a 38-32 edge and appeared to swing momentum firmly in their favor.

Sioux City refused to fold.

Bruno punched in his second rushing touchdown of the night to put the Bandits back on top, 39-38, but Salina responded once again with a late touchdown drive to take a 46-39 lead with under a minute remaining.

That set the stage for a final, unforgettable drive.

Starting deep in their own territory with just 50 seconds on the clock, Brown led the Bandits on an eight-play, 42-yard march. With time expiring, the veteran quarterback took matters into his own hands, scrambling for an 11-yard touchdown with just two seconds remaining to give Sioux City a 47-46 lead. The Bandits converted the ensuing two-point attempt, capping off a clutch sequence under pressure.

Salina had one final opportunity with an untimed down, but a 31-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left, sealing the victory for Sioux City.

Brown finished the night with 122 passing yards and three touchdown passes, while adding 54 rushing yards and the game-winning score. Johnson led the receiving corps with two touchdown catches, and Bruno added two rushing touchdowns and a key two-point conversion reception.

Defensively, the Bandits came up with three interceptions and two sacks, helping shift momentum throughout the game despite surrendering several big plays.

Sioux City also controlled the pace of the game, holding the ball for over 38 minutes and converting 7-of-12 third-down attempts.

With the win, the Bandits improve to 3-2 on the season and hand Salina its first loss of the year.

Sioux City returns home next Saturday looking to build on the momentum from one of the most thrilling wins in franchise history.
