Bandits Defend Home Turf with 35–22 Win Over Punishers
The Sioux City Bandits took care of business Saturday night at Tyson Events Center, knocking off the Pueblo Punishers 35–22 in a game that showcased timely plays, big moments, and a defense that bent but didn’t break.
With the win, Sioux City improves to 4–2 on the season, while Pueblo falls to 5–1.
Fast Start Sets the Tone
Sioux City wasted no time getting on the board, as kicker Dylan Karnes drilled a 39-yard field goal on the opening drive. Moments later, quarterback Lorenzo Brown connected with Fred Bruno for an 18-yard touchdown, giving the Bandits a quick 9–0 advantage.
The defense matched that energy early, forcing stops and capitalizing on a key interception that set up the early touchdown.
Wild Second Quarter Swing
The second quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle.
Pueblo responded with a short rushing touchdown from Joshua Hollins, and later tied the game at 15–15 after a strong ground drive capped by Jo-El Shaw.
But the biggest moment of the night came just before halftime.
With seconds left, a long missed Pueblo field goal turned into a game-changing play when Fred Bruno returned it 40 yards for a touchdown, swinging momentum back to Sioux City and sending the Bandits into the locker room with a 21–15 lead.
Bandits Capitalize in the Second Half
Coming out of halftime, Sioux City delivered one of its most efficient drives of the night. Jeff Mack punched in a 10-yard rushing touchdown early in the third quarter to extend the lead to 28–15.
Despite being outgained in total yards (210–123) and time of possession (34:50–25:10), the Bandits made their opportunities count.
Pueblo trimmed the lead to six early in the fourth quarter with another rushing touchdown from Shaw, but Sioux City answered with a statement drive.
Closing the Door
Midway through the fourth, the Bandits leaned on their ground game, finishing a six-play drive with a 4-yard rushing touchdown from Fred Bruno—his third total touchdown of the night.
From there, the defense locked things down, forcing a turnover on downs and sealing the 35–22 victory.
